AVSL 2025/26: Round 1 Wrap

The 2025/26 AVSL (Athletics Victoria Shield League) season has officially launched, marking a return to Newport Park Athletics Track after an eight-year hiatus from the venue. The opening round brought renewed energy and fierce competition as athletes from across Victoria converged on Newport.

This year, Preston Athletic Club takes on the challenge of Division 2, lining up against some of Victoria’s most competitive teams, including Doncaster Athletic Club, Athletics Chilwell, and Collingwood Harriers.

Preston made a solid start to the campaign, posting a commendable 22,045 points in Round 1, placing mid-table—just 236 points shy of Eureka Athletic Club. A strong team performance was bolstered by several standout individual efforts.

Six Preston athletes earned spots in the Top 100 Most Valuable Athletes for the round:

  • Anwita Prasanth1,170 points

  • Jasman Mann1,044 points

  • Gurpreet Rai1,031 points

  • Rajnihal Singh Bhullar1,028 points

  • Sukhman Kaur946 points

  • Reet Sandhu945 points

A special mention goes to Preston’s 40+ Women’s team, who finished an impressive 4th on the Age Group ladders in Round 1 — a fantastic achievement and a testament to their consistency and dedication.
